FAQ
Everything you might want to know about how unknott works.
Getting started
unknott is an AI-guided self-coaching app built around one loop: you describe what's holding you back, it identifies the pattern behind it, and it builds you a short plan of daily tasks -- drawn from real CBT, ACT, mindfulness, behavioral, and somatic techniques -- to work through it one day at a time.
You start by describing your challenge in your own words. unknott asks a few clarifying questions to understand it better, then builds a plan: a short run of daily tasks, each pairing a specific technique with a prompt personalized to your situation. You work through one task a day; the next day's prompt is written using what you reflected on the day before, so the plan adapts as you go instead of following a fixed script.
A Session is the overall thing you're working on. Each Session is broken into Plans -- roughly week-long stretches -- and each Plan has up to 5 daily Tasks. Finish all of a Plan's tasks and, if there's more ground to cover, the next Plan starts automatically.
Yes -- start a new Session any time from the dashboard. Your Sessions run independently, each with its own plan and progress.
Daily practice
You write a short reflection, rate how it went, and note your mood. That unlocks the next day's task -- and its prompt is written with your reflection in mind, so the plan responds to what actually happened rather than sticking to a script decided on day one.
Yes. Open a completed task and you can edit your reflection, mood, or difficulty rating at any time -- it saves in place without re-locking the rest of your plan.
Yes -- each task has a space to ask a follow-up question if something about the technique or the prompt isn't clear, before or after you complete it.
The Journal collects every note you jot down while working through a task, in one chronological place, separate from your formal task reflections -- useful for anything you want to remember along the way.
Achievements
Badges that mark real milestones in your practice: consistency streaks, volume of work completed, mastery of specific techniques, and journey-specific moments like finishing your first day or an entire Session. A toast celebrates each one the moment it unlocks, and every badge -- earned or not -- lives on the Achievements page.
Consistency (streaks of daily completions), Milestones (total tasks and plans completed, in bronze/silver/gold/platinum tiers), Technique mastery (trying every technique in a category, or the full library), and Journey (moments tied to one specific Session, like its first or last day).
Most badges are one-and-done, but two -- First Step and Full Journey -- are tied to a Session rather than your whole history, so they unlock again for every new Session you complete. You'll see them shown as "x2", "x3", and so on.
Badges are checked right after you complete a task or finish a Plan, so they should appear immediately. Streak badges specifically need consecutive calendar days, not just consecutive tasks -- completing several tasks back to back in one sitting counts as one day, and skipping a day restarts the streak.
Getting the most out of it
One task a day, most days. The next day's prompt is written using what you reflected the day before, so the plan gets more useful the more honestly you engage with each task -- rushing through several in one sitting skips that feedback loop entirely.
Say so in your reflection. It's read before the next day's prompt is written, so it directly shapes what comes next -- there's no need to force a technique that isn't landing.
Not really -- the exercises are built to be sat with for a day, not sprinted through. Spacing them out is also exactly what the consistency badges are measuring, so pacing yourself is rewarded, not penalized.
Notifications & privacy
Yes -- turn on daily reminders from your Profile and pick a time of day. There's also an optional nudge if a Session goes quiet for a while.
No. It's a self-guided practice tool built on established technique families, not a clinical or emergency service -- if you're in crisis or need clinical care, please reach out to a professional or local emergency services instead.
